Surface Preparation & Protection
Most paint failures are caused by poor preparation—not the paint itself. That’s why every exterior project at Remod Exteriors begins with detailed surface prep designed to protect your home and create a stable foundation for long-term performance.
Our preparation process includes pressure washing to remove dirt, chalking, and mildew; scraping loose or failing paint; securing exposed or raised nails; caulking seams, joints, and trim gaps; priming bare wood and exposed surfaces; and carefully masking and protecting windows, doors, landscaping, and walkways. Each step is intentional and completed before any finish coat is applied.
Adhesion, Longevity & Performance
Proper preparation is what allows paint to bond correctly and perform year after year—especially in Colorado’s harsh climate. Without it, even the best paint will peel, blister, or fade prematurely.
By thoroughly prepping surfaces and priming where needed, we improve adhesion, protect underlying materials, and extend the life of the finished paint system. This process helps prevent common failures, supports manufacturer warranties, and ensures your home’s exterior remains protected—not just freshly painted.

Our 8 Step Prep Process
Every Job, Every Time.
Pressure Wash
Removes dirt and debris, ensuring a clean surface for better paint adhesion and lasting results.
Caulk Seams & Trim
Caulking seams and trim seals gaps to block moisture, prevent drafts, and create a smooth, polished finish for painting.
Scrape Loose Paint
Scraping removes loose paint, ensuring a smooth surface for a durable and professional finish.
Prime Lower Panels
Improves paint adhesion and adds extra protection against moisture and wear in areas most exposed to the elements.
Secure Nails
Securing nail heads prevents paint bubbling and ensures a smooth, professional finish.
Prime Bare Surfaces
Ensures optimal paint adhesion and seals the material, providing a uniform base and long-lasting, professional results.
Caulk Nail Heads
Caulking nail heads seals gaps to prevent water intrusion and ensures a long-lasting, weather-resistant finish.
Mask Windows
Protects from accidental paint splatter, ensuring a clean, professional finish without additional cleanup or damage.
